Navigating Aged Care
As our loved ones get older, they may need extra support and care to maintain their quality of life. Everyday tasks such as cleaning, cooking, or moving around can become difficult to manage on their own. Aged care is the support provided to seniors who may need help in their own home or when they can no longer live at home.
However, navigating the Australian aged care system is not easy and can be a highly emotional time. With the right amount of information and resources, the process can become more manageable.
Understanding Aged Care Services
Aged care services can help your elderly loved ones stay connected to their community, ensure their health, safety, and wellbeing are being looked after, and help maintain independence. Some elderly care services include:
- Personal and medical care
- Help with everyday living, such as grocery shopping, food preparation, and housework
- Assistive equipment and home modifications
- Accommodation
There are different types of care available:
Home Care
This provides assistance to those living at home who may need an extra hand with daily tasks. Healthcare professionals can assist with personal hygiene, dressing, mobility, transportation, and rehabilitation after surgery or while managing an illness.
Respite Care
This is available for those needing short-term care to give themselves and their primary carer a break. It can be provided in-home or at a residential aged care facility. In the event your carer is unexpectedly unable to care for you, emergency respite care may be beneficial. Menarock LIFE provide respite care suited to those needing carer support for most tasks and can range from a few days to a few weeks. In residential aged care, you will receive the same care and support as our permanent Menarock LIFE residents.
Residential Care
For those requiring constant supervision and assistance, residential care provides ongoing 24/7 support, accommodation, nursing, and personal care in a specialised facility. If your loved ones need constant supervision and assistance, residential aged care may be worth considering. As one of Australia’s most trusted providers of residential aged care, Menarock LIFE offers professional care in our welcoming facilities. With 12 residences across Victoria, regional NSW, and Hobart, Tasmania, our homes range in capacity from 45 to 90 residents, with several homes featuring dedicated dementia care wings, allowing us to provide more personalised, one-on-one care.

But where do you start?
The best place to start is My Aged Care. You can visit their website for more information or get in touch with them by calling 1800 200 422.
A health and needs assessment from ACAT (Aged Care Assessment Team) is required to determine your eligibility for government-subsidised aged care services. The assessment is free of charge and can be requested by contacting My Aged Care. Any decisions regarding aged care will have financial implications so if you’re unsure about what is involved into entering aged care, please find more information on My Aged Care or speak to one of our team members by calling us at 1300 096 971 to learn more.
